Sockjaw's map gets an update!

After using the old scan of the brochure map for a year, the Sockjaw National Park site has finally updated our map with a digital recreation of the brochure version. The digital illustration also provides clear directions to each path. You can check out the NEW map here!

This new map update for the site provides a better experience for explorers and visitors of all kinds. Nobody wants a low quality scan, right? Thanks to our editor, Sarah, she was able to format it correctly for our site.

Camping site closes for the season

After a great, warm summer, it's finally time to close our camping sites in preparation for winter's harsh weather. Camping is truly a highlight for our park, as the experience of being right next to all of the rich nature provides a lovely experience. Though the camping sites are technically not in the park (as that's not permitted for safety reasons), they're close enough that you feel like you're there anyway, right?

We hope you all enjoyed your summer. And if you missed out this season, you can always book a hotel nearby in winter, or book a cabin at the Sockjaw Camping Site during the summer! Either way, we're so grateful to have you here.

Ducklings hatched at Horne lake!

We're excited to announce that the ducklings we've been keeping a close eye on in the park have finally hatched! There are now eight little ducklings (plus their one duck mama) waddling in and around Horne lake. Though this area is closed off to park visitors, our lovely park rangers have been taking pictures of the ducklings, one of which you can see here. We're so lucky to have our staff at Sockjaw National Park!

Thunderstorm sweeps through the Poconos, minor damage to park

This weekend we faced a rough thunderstorm that swept all through this part of Pennsylvania. We were lucky to not recieve too much damage from the storm, however, our park still had a decent portion of trees taken down on the North end due to high wind speeds. The good news is that no nests were occupied in these trees. However, it still is damaging to the ecosystem. We are working on fixing up the mess left after this thunderstorm and repairing the fallen trees.
